I Never Smiled for Photos - Part 1

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 12:21 PM
Just as the clock strikes 12, I am now going thru all my childhood ( not exactly, but may be later teen age) photos. One common thing I can note about all the photos I am in, is that I never smiled or never occupied the center stage of any photo nor do I have a solo pic of mine.

All the photos I am presently having are those taken in family trips like Ooty tour during 10th leave, Goa tour during 11th leave and Munnar tour during 3rd year. What possibly I think is the reason behind all these smile-less photos is probably

  • I was down with inferiority complex
  • I wasn't been a good child in academics, so that I couldn't dare to smile in a photo with my Dad or in a photo taken by my Dad or in a photo taken while my Dad is watching
So on goes the reasons. The main reason behind all these distress, pain in my heart, thorn in my flesh etc etc was my bloody f***ing academic performance. A generation of parents who cannot withstand their child doing low in academics and trying to learn more from sources other than books.

Timeline:
Throughout my 24 yrs of good-for-nothing life, the only happy moment I remember sharing with my dad was somewhere way back in my childhood probably I think in my kinder-garden. I told my dad when he was playing with me, his 2 day old beard is pricking me and the next day he had it shaved. Thats it, no more records of happy encounters. Note: this was the period I was coming in top 3 of the class

Then came the 'cat on the wall' phase. I wasn't performing that great to be in first 3 nor that bad to go out of top 10. The first real split came between my Dad and me was due to Algebra. I still remember getting scoldings from him for not able to memorize (a+b)^3 expansion, which I don't remember even now. This period was between 5-8th Std. I remember playing cricket with my Dad and few neighbours.
And I remember going to Sabarimala 3 times with him. All these are just remembrance and not happy memories, not a single scene of joy comes across my mind in this period or from this period of time.

Then the downfall. The trojan Horse which entered into my city of heart is my score in Tamil in 9th STD summer special class. I got just 28/100. I didn't fare well due to my hate on the tamil teacher and I didn't want to study. Then I started telling all lies and started doing all kind of Jaaljaaps to cover my poor performance. I hid the marksheets, I added more marks in my marksheet, I edited my report card, I failed in 5/8 subjects. One fine day all my under-ground activities were uncovered and from then on how much ever I tried to be a good guy, I was never believed to be one. 9th Std is the worst year in my life. I still don't know why i did all those mal-practices. I some how manage to move on to 10th std.

This was the period I started staying away from my family more. I used to stay in school itself as long as possible saying some special class and then I would start as early as 4:30 PM from home for 5:30 Maths tution and will return as late as 8:30 from a tution which gets over by 6:30. Not that I roamed the city. I didn't want to be in home, so I stayed back in tution. Thanks Centum Selvaraj Sir, for allowing me to come early and go late and Sorry for you thinking that I stay back due to my love on maths. I did all I could to stay out of house or atleast I will escape to the terrace saying I am gonna study there. I started hate my family and in a way hatred grew in their heart too I think.

All their concern was there were quite a few in the known circle of my dad, whose children are too writing 10th exams and I was pushed to score ahead of them. Which naturally I didn't like. I never tried too much to pass off with flying colors. The only console in my home that time was the wall close to my bed. Only that piece of brick and cement has seen my tears, agony and all. The only time I could see my daddy smile was during the last revision test result time just before public exams. I scored 888/1100 the highest score by me. Thanks to Xavier Sir for putting 20 extra marks for me in geography that test.

10th results came. I fared 2nd in the race, next to tharani my neighbour. 934/1100. The next obvious thing my Dad did was to change my school from Holy Cross to some strict ditch school. I chose Kurinji ahead of SRV because all were going to SRV and I didnt want to fall in that same pit. Lemme fall in another pit Kurinji. That was the thought running thru my mind that time.

Mattravai in next post.

Similarities between god and GOD

god
GOD
Invented by human thousands of years ago
Christened by million humans 2 decades back
Millions follow madly, though they can't feel or see him
Millions follow madly. Difference all can see him and feel the presence of him
Concept created on “Who knows when?”
Prodigy started on 24th Apr 1973
Infinite frauds in the name of god-sent
No one can be GOD-sent except for Arjun Tendulkar or Sara Tendulkar.
You always want god by your side in your tough phases
No difference. Same as left
The sheer presence said to have increased the confidence of many
The sheer presence proven to have increased the confidence of many
The more the evil forces attack, the more the god over-powers them – sources religious books
The more opponents attack(sledging) the more they get punished by his bat – sources cricket books
Whenever god over-powers a tough villain a new avatar is born adding to the long-list of already present names.
Whenever GOD overpowers a tough bowler a new shot is born adding to the long-list of awesome strokes invented by him
god uses vajrayudha
GOD uses a piece of willow
god loves riding sundeli
GOD loves riding Ferrari
gods fought many years to get a cup of amirdham
GOD fought many years for “Cup of Joy” the world cup
god never impressed their non-believers and neutrals
GOD never fails to impress opponents and neutrals (umpire Eg- David Shepherd)
Finally, god splits the people of India
GOD unites the People of India

Finally sorry for using the word "god" describing this one man army, but the human made dictionary doesn't provide a more powerful word

மாநிற MGR

Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 2:37 AM
Jan 30, 2010 – Schedule - Morning Start from Perungalattur, reach Anna Nagar West. Lunch at Anna Nagar. Evening goto Adyar. Night - board bus to Salem from Koyembedu. In this tight travelling schedule I had an hour and half to be wasted before shuttling between Anna Nagar and Adyar. So that is the reason for this post.

I waited in bus stop with the idea of travelling in MTC bus for the full 1.5 hrs and make the fullest use of the one day pass taken. Just then saw a bus to Anna Square and thought of going there because it was years before when I last went there.

Anna Square: Good Maintenance preferably because some birth anniversary or death anniversary of Anna was round the corner. I saw nothing interesting and moved on to the next place MGR Samadhi the crux of this post.
MGR Samadhi and the things which struck me:

•   Human is drastically in need for sex. All around the Samadhi of this two great leaders of our state I could find hundreds of people who were in ‘to be censored’ condition, unminding of the by-passers and the on-lookers. Shame no:1
•   When you move on to the main burial place of MGR you can find far more worse scenes, which when compared Shame no:1 is better. There were curved Pillars surrounding the MGR’s resting place. People find those to be the most exciting place and were climbing on it. Some people even find it adventurous, they take some grease and climb the pillar and mark their maximum reach and ask their friends to beat it. Wow what a scene of seeing the whole white marbled pillars with all grease marks on it.??!! Shame No:2.

One irony which struck to me was “There sleeps a leader who wanted all the people to be educated by introducing many educational schemes. May be because he foresaw that his ‘Samadhi’ will be tormented by some un-educated un-rational brats”

Disturbed by all these shits I moved on to MGR Museum. Inside they have kept all the important pictures of MGR with great world leaders to the commonest man in TN. Though most of the photos I saw were like stills and snapshots of the Movie ‘Iruvar’, I soon realized that MGR is the original and Mohanlal was his celluloid shadow. After seeing all those photos my respect for Mani and his Iruvar increased from 100% to ∞%. He managed to portray full life of MGR and his association with Karunanidhi without hurting anyone’s feelings. Hail Mani.!! Impact No:1

There were so many photos depicting MGR with great people (Not referring to the big VVIPs, I am referring to the common man). He had eaten lunch in a small corporation school with children. He had hugged old grandmas and had consoled them. There were so many other things through which now I understand why he had so much mass following. Impact No:2

Both MGR and Karunanidhi had done reforms and welfare. But the difference between their reforms can be put like this
MGR மக்கள் நலம் காத்தார்; கருணாநிதி தம் மக்கள் காத்தார்.

I have many reasons to say Karunanidhi is a wastrel compared to MGR.
*  When MGR first brought in “Noon meals scheme” to bring in more children to school, Karunanidhi staged big opposing demonstration saying it is an useless scheme. Later when Karunanidhi came to Power, he converted to this noon meals scheme to “sathunavu thittam” and took all the credit. Reason No:1.
*  MGR saw there were not much people in BC and MBC, so down-trodden in the society to be given importance in quota system and brought in the creamy layer. But as usual this bald crack opposed it and even now that creamy layer isn’t implemented. Reason No:2.
and many more reason are there.

So what is all this have to do with the title of this post. I was born on the same day and exactly the same time when MGR died. So I think I have more rights to call myself மாநிற MGR rather than all those சிவப்பு MGR, கருப்பு MGR, மஞ்சள் MGR etc etc…

Disclaimer: I am not ADMK nor DMK just a suffering Dravidian. And all I meant to say is MGR had a slight edge over the Bald one. The only unity they both have is they made people lazy and had built an useless society through their reforms and offers.

Ps: If any you find this post is uncontinous and too vague ( Which I myself admit ) sorry, can’t help it b’cos thats the way my mind works.

AO can be taken as "South Indian"a Jones..... but I dont want to discriminate Selva by comparing to a Hollywood film...
Lets go by pros and cons, and before which Lemme tell i saw the 2.30 hrs version.

Pros:
* First of a Kind , so selva had no pre-writen protocol or template to follow, which itself a nice thing because if there is no template, the creativity horse runs better to create wonders. To me it is a wonder indeed.

* Karthi- though he resembles Paruthiveeran in his intro and Surya in his way of delivering comedy, he s d one who drives the first half and of course through skin show of the lead ladies accompanying him. Really a good use of 2 yrs of his life.

* Reema sen- A big WOW factor. Never expected to see such a performance from her. Through out the entire movie she makes us wonder by the way she has protrayed a strong and rigid modern woman, fighting for her pandiyan Dynasty

* Parthiban - even after 48 hrs still the image of parthiban and his acting hasn't gone out of my mind. Hats off to Selva for showcasing the Valour and dignity of a dravidian King thru a Dravidian.

* Thousands of Junior Artists - For those who had been to the Endhiran Shooting @ SSN know who junior artists are and their job( When director says YES then they have to clap and stop @ hearing STOP from director). This movie has used Junior artists more usefully and they also have given their max to the magnificence of the movie.

* Songs - The classical song "Thaai Thindra manne" such a beautiful composition or an intelligent lifting(which i dont know as of now) to the kuthu song "Un mela Aasai dhaan" Songs are great. They could have left "adho andha paravai pola vaazha vendum" as such and should not have remixed this way.

* Story - Screenplay, seems to be confusing for many but not for me. Many said 2nd half is not upto the mark, just because they dont understand TAMIL, such a shame. I dint find any single dialogue as difficult to understand. Anyone who had passed 10th std with TAMIL as 2nd language would have easily understood the movie.

Cons:

* BGM - There werent any scene in which the BGM given to it lifted the scene to gr8 heights. GV you have to learn a lot from ur Uncle in BGM section. Many a times in 2nd half i got irritated by BGM. None of the scenes even made the BGM felt its presence.

* Andrea - Better used in Music dept than in acting dept. Of course she gives company to the lead characters by her part in skin show.

* Azhagam Perumal - cOuld have been less annoying and furious

* production time - As Kamal Said take more time in ur pre-production Selva

* Graphics - The quality of graphics is scaled by the level to which it is not noticed. In AO most of the graphics was standing seperately and telling the viewers I'm here.

* All of a sudden climax

* Selva should rather focus on story more, than making sure he has a dance seq around fire ( which has become a must add scene in all of his films).
and try to reduce the amount of glamour and vulgarity, the ppl arent still grown to the level of Americans to take those glamour part easily.
If the movie had less glamour atleast it would have attracted more family audience.

* Total confusion prevails even after the movie ends, to zero upon who actually is the AAYIRATHIL ORUVAN ?

I LIKED THE MOVIE BESIDES ITS CONS; STILL MY PERSONAL FAV OF SELVA IS PUDHUPETTAI.

ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன் தமிழ் சினிமாவின் மகுடமாக இல்லை என்றாலும் ஒரு கைக்கவசமாக அதை வைத்துகொள்ளலாம்.
